Guam Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Consortium and ProLead Guam Combined Meeting
The next Guam Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Consortium meeting will be combined with the ProLead Workshop II on April 19, 2017 at the Chamorro Ballroom, Pacific Star Resort and Spa from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM. This event is sponsored by the Guam Department of Public Health and Social Services in partnership with the World Health Organization.
Speakers from various countries will share and discuss successful strategies being implemented in their particular locale. Dr. Hai Rim Kim will provide an overview of the NCDs and discuss impacts of village-based health financing schemes to NCDs in the Republic of Korea; Mr. Inigo Garingalao will provide an inspirational talk regarding leadership in NCD prevention and control, focusing on lessons from a multi- awarded tobacco control program in the Philippines; and Dr. Rick Kim will discuss global and regional initiatives for NCD prevention and control in the primary care settings.
Moreover, speakers from the Association of State and Territorial Health Officers will discuss the Heart Disease and Stroke Learning Collaborative, a project that will focus on health systems change approaches to improve care provided to people with uncontrolled or poorly controlled hypertension. In addition, speakers from the University of Guam will also discuss the Screen to Save Colorectal Cancer Project.
The ProLead Workshop II aims to increase and enhance participants’ health promotion and leadership skills in NCD prevention and control; and to develop an action plan to address hypertension control in Guam. The workshop will take place from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM at the Guahan Room, Pacific Star Resort and Spa.
The Worksite Wellness Program (WWP) 2nd Quarterly Drawing will also be held at the Chamorro Ballroom from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Please join this event to help support and promote healthy living for everyone on Guam and to hear the latest progress and updates in fighting NCDs.
