PRESS RELEASE No. 2021-013
December 1 is World AIDS Day
The Department of Public Health and Social Services STD/HIV/Viral Hepatitis Program (SHVHP) and Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP), in collaboration with Guam’s Alternative Lifestyle Association (GALA) and WestCare Pacific Islands (WCPI), are pleased to announce the observance of World AIDS Day on December 1, 2020.
World AIDS Day is observed annually on December 1 and is an opportunity for all of us to unite in the fight against HIV, support people living with HIV and honor those who have lost their life. The theme for this year’s event “Global solidarity, shared responsibility” requires us to view global health responses, including the HIV/AIDS response and the COVID-19 response, in a new way. It highlights how health is interwoven with other critical issues such as human rights, gender equality, social protection, economic growth and reducing inequality and calls on leaders and the community to work together to effectively address these issues.
This year’s World AIDS Day event will be commemorated virtually via the Prutehi Hao Facebook page: www.facebook.com/prutehihao. A schedule of events along with various media will be shared on the page throughout the month of December.
For additional information regarding this year’s World AIDS Day event or STD/HIV/Viral hepatitis-related services, please contact Vince J. Aguon, MPA, SHVHP Acting Supervisor, at 635-7494 or 747-0111/3.
