TUBERCULOSIS/HANSEN’S DISEASE CONTROL PROGRAM

The Guam Tuberculosis/Hansen’s Disease Control Program implements numerous strategies and activities to prevent the spread of tuberculosis (TB) and Hansen’s Disease (HD) with the goal of eliminating these diseases as a public health burden on Guam. The TB/HD Program utilizes the U.S. CDC Tuberculosis Elimination Management System (STEMS) for LTBI (Latent TB Infection) and TB case management, contact investigations, LTBI surveillance, identification of barriers to LTBI diagnosis, and treatment completion. The Program will expand its efforts for HD contact tracing with the addition of more staff. The TB/HD Program also works closely with the U. S. CDC and, in cooperation with the U.S. Affiliated Pacific Islands jurisdictions, to coordinate activities to mitigate the ongoing problems of tuberculosis and Hansen’s disease in the Western Pacific.

• Direct clinical care
• TB and HD consultation
• Dispense TB and HD medications
• Perform laboratory testing
• Perform chest x-ray and x-ray referral services
• Case management for active TB, HD, and Contacts
• TB Medication monitoring
• TB/HD Surveillance
• TB/HD Contact Investigation
• TB/HD outreach and education
• Screen newly arrived refugees and immigrants with health conditions requiring medical follow-up.
• Issue TB clearance for school and workplace

POPULATION SERVED

Serve as a referral facility for any Guam resident, migrant and immigrant who may have suspected/active TB or HD. For TB testing, only provide free TB test for individuals who are identified as contacts to a confirmed active TB patient or Hansen’s Disease patients.
