Inside the Division of Public Health
Chief Public Health Office
The Office of the Chief Public Health Officer coordinates the activities of different sections and bureaus in order to maximize limited resources, both federal and local, and to meet the approximately seventy-two mandates of the division. Activities implemented have affected our island and have also regional implications as well.
Dental Program
The Dental Program provides basic educational, preventive and treatment services to the children of Guam below the age of 17 years and provides emergency dental care to adults 55 years or older for the relief of pain and/or infection.
Health Professional Licensing Office
The Health Professional Licensing Office (HPLO) oversees and supports the planning and implementing of all Health Professional Licensing Boards’ Guam mandates.
Office of Epidemiology and Research
The Office of Epidemiology and Research is responsible for surveillance, prevention and control of disease and promoting health throughout Guam.
Office of Vital Statistics
The Office of Vital Statistics is mandated by law to register, certify and maintain records of vital events that occur on Guam. It is also mandated by law to process and issue marriage licenses.
Community Health Services Section
The section administers federal grants such as the Diabetes Prevention and Control Program, the Tobacco Prevention and Control Program and the Tobacco Quitline, the Sexual Violence and Prevention Program, the Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, the Comprehensive Cancer Control Program, the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, and the Non-Communicable Disease Control Program.
The section also provides support services to mandated programs such as the Office of Minority Health; Maternal and Child Health (MCH); the STD/HIV Prevention Program; Guam Comprehensive Hemophilia Care Program; and Family Planning Program.
Bureau of Communicable Disease Control
Bureau of Communicable Disease Control prepares, prevents, responds and controls the spread of diseases of public health concern in Guam through surveillance, disease reporting and investigation in collaboration with health care providers and key responders for a healthier island community.
Bureau of Family Health and Nursing Services
Bureau of Family Health and Nursing Services is to provide community health nursing services by synthesizing nursing practice and public health practices.
Bureau of Nutrition Services
Bureau of Nutrition Services strives to improve health and well-being through nutrition education, promotion of physical activity, and engaging with partners to develop policies and environmental changes which reduce hunger, increase breastfeeding, and decrease obesity and its associated chronic diseases throughout Guam.
Bureau of Primary Care Services
The Bureau of Primary Care Services aims to reduce health disparities by providing comprehensive primary health care to the underserved, indigent, and uninsured populations who are most in need of assistance and least able to find it.
